Tuesday Tip of the Week: Honey for Dogs

When we saved Goldie (A1050311) in September 2015 he had a deep wound he suffered when he was shot with a tranquilizer dart by police. It was stubborn to heal and needed constant vet care. Our vet recommended coating the wound in honey and wrapping it up. After that course of treatment was started the wound finally began to heal!

We had never heard of honey as a wound treatment and so we did some investigating and discovered honey is being used in all sorts of homeopathic treatments for dogs including allergy relief, digestion support, boosting energy levels, and helping heal hot spots and pressure sores.

Not all honey is created equal so make sure that you do your research and consult with a holistic vet before treating wounds, hot spots and pressure sores with honey.

Check out the following article for using honey to treat allergies, aid in treatment of kennel cough and to boost energy.

If you've ever used honey to treat one of your dogs ailments, please let us know. We'd love to hear your success stories.
